He started his music journey on a slow pace by releasing Tiye on 31st December, 2021, a date which coincided with his birthday commemoration. Little did people know that this author-cum-musician would continue with this new career.

This is Dyson Mthawanji who has just released his new track titled ‘Away’ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2mIjkZkaps&t=68s) in which he has featured one of the greatest music producers, Macia.

Speaking to The Atlas Malawi, Mthawanji, popularly known as Mr Dyson in music circles, said the release of ‘Away’ is a great testimony that he has come in music industry to stay.

“I love music. Music is part of my life. People who have been close to me will testify that I love music. I enjoy composing songs. It is from this background that I assure all music lovers that I am here to stay. I want to be better every time I release a song,” he said.

Mthawanji said he keeps studying how new entrants are doing their music. “I keep learning from the new entrants in music industry. That’s a secret about arts,” he said.

In ‘Away’, Mthawanji brings a love story, a topic which has become popular topic in modern music. The song is about a man who appreaciates the love of his woman whom he has travelled from far in as far as love journey is concerned

Mthawanji sings:
Nditakuona mu January
Ndidangoti male
Mtima sudayiwale
Lero ndiwe wanga dale

The song’s audio which is in afro pop genre, was recorded by Macia while the video was done by crafted hands in the name of Ubwino. Mthawanji said he has enjoyed working with both Macia and Ubwino.

The song ‘Away’ comes after Mthawanji released his solo song titled Stape (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoZCE4raqpM) two months ago.

Asked why he took a short break before releasing a music video, Mthawanji said he was tied up with studies as he is pursuing his Master’s Degree in Business Administration at Malawi School of Government (formerly known as Malawi Institute of Management).

Away is a song which shows that Mthawanji is improving every time he releases a song. It seems he has realized the tactic to use for him to stay relevant as he has adapted to urban music style.

“That’s the only way to stay relevant in music. I will continue bringing music of good taste for the people,” said Mthawanji.

Apart from music, Mthawanji has been known as an author of short stories and books. One of his books is the popular Chiphadzuwa cha Usiku which sold like hot cakes two years ago.
