Former EPAC FC midfielder, Francis Mkonda has terminated his contract with Mighty Mukuru Wanderers after the two parties agreed to part company.
The box-to-box midfielder has decided to terminate his contract with the Club with six months left and he is now a free agent. Mkonda confirmed the development but couldn’t reveal the reasons leading to his departure from the Lali Luban-based side.
“From today, I’m no longer Mighty Mukuru Wanderers’ player,” he confirmed in an interview with Mji Online. “I just want to thank the Club, supporters, my teammates for the wonderful years we have been together.”
Mighty Mukuru Wanderers Chief Executive Officer, Panganani Ndovi has confirmed that the team tried to convince him to stay but the decision was already made.
“He is indeed leaving, we have agreed that the contract should be terminated. We tried to keep him, we had talks but he decided to leave,” he said.
Mkonda hasn’t revealed the team that he is going to join after leaving the blue camp but The Atlas Malawi has it that he was in talks with Civil Service United for a possible return to the Club.
Captaining Masters Security FC at his tender age, Mkonda guided the Club to a historical triumph in the Carlsberg Cup in 2018 beating both FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.
He joined Wanderers in February 2019 and helped the Club to win the Airtel Top 8 Cup in 2022.
