Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has ordered the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) to suspend the registration of Promise Kamwendo as Mighty Mukuru Wanderers’ player pending the resolution of the transfer saga.
Kamwendo’s transfer to the Nomads has been the most headline-hogging issue as the player was said to be on the verge of joining FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
After the player dumped Bullets to join Wanderers despite having reportedly agreed to sign a contract with them, The people’s team moved on to challenge the deal by lodging an official complaint to the Association on the matter.
Bullets claimed that they had already paid MK400,000 to Kamwendo for a reason not mentioned and claimed that they had already agreed with the players’ camp for the transfer, including paying the transfer fee to Dedza Dynamos Football Club.
FAM’s Chief Executive Officer, Alfred Gunda, on Thursday asked Kamwendo’s agent, Hastings Chilunga, to provide his side of the story.
Before Chilunga responded to FAM, Kamwendo wrote FAM to facilitate his transfer to Wanderers saying that he did not enter into any correspondence with Bullets and he is not aware of any such correspondence.
Kamwendo trashed the claim that he received MK400,000 from Bullets and that he did not authorize his manager, Chilunga, to receive the money. He also added that he did not sign any contract with Bullets but only with Wanderers.
“I am not aware of Mr. Chilunga’s travel arrangement to Blantyre. I traveled to Blantyre voluntarily as an adult to discuss personal terms with officials of Mighty Mukuru Wanderers,” reads the letter in part.
Kamwendo said he is not interested in joining Bullets, and he has informed his parent club, Dedza FC, of his decision to join the Lali Luban-based side.
“I want FAM to promptly facilitate my clearance from Dedza Dynamos to Wanderers so I can start playing football for my club Wanderers. I am very happy at Lali Lubani Road.
“If Bullets paid any money believing they were going to sign me then it unfortunate and their monies should simply be returned,” adds the letter
FAM halts the transfer of Kamwendo
FAM on Thursday evening ordered Sulom to halt the registration of Promise Kamwendo as Mighty Mukuru Wanderers player despite the transfer window remaining with just hours.
In a letter signed by the Association’s Chief Executive Officer, Alfred Gunda, FAM received a complaint from FCB Nyasa Big Bullets who claimed that they had already concluded the deal to sign the former Extreme FC striker before Wanderers snatched him.
“As a result of the complaint received, FAM hereby informs SULOM of the suspension of the registration of Mr. Promise Kamwendo (FIFA ID: 15ZH717) with immediate effect until the matter is resolved,” reads the letter in part.
Gunda said the Association is gathering facts of the matter for the determination of the Players’ Status committee and has appealed to all parties, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, Dedza Dynamos Football Club, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, and Promise Kamwendo to exercise patience on the matter as it will be handled with the urgency it deserves.
Kamwendo was expected to join Bullets before reportedly going missing on Sunday evening but he was unveiled at Wanderers on Monday evening after penning a three-year contract.
