Aspiring presidential candidate Dr. Daniel Dube has been thrown back to make amendments to certain parts of his nomination papers before formally presenting them to the Malawi Electoral Commission ( MEC).

Dude was the third presidential candidate who appeared before the electoral body to submit his nomination papers on Thursday afternoon hours after the commission had approved documents from Joyce Banda of people’s party and an independent presidential hopeful Adil James.

Dube wishes to contest under the Nationalist Patriotic Party ( NPP) ticket, looked confident as initially announced picking retired Supreme Court Judge, Dunstan Mwaungulu as his running mate.

But Mwaungulu was not physically in the conference room. Commenting on his absencia, Dube said said he would not appear physically due some unforeseen circumstances.

But moments after he handed over the papers for a maiden scrutiny, MEC chairperson Annabel Mtalimanja said his papers were incomplete as they lacked vetting from the said running mate, among others.

“The running mate did not provided certain requirements such as proof of elegibility. The papers have not been signed by the one the candidate is mentioning that would be his running mate and there is no his valid national ID,” said Mtalimanja.

MEC, however, has given Dube until July 30, 2025 to correct the anomalies and resubmit the papers to the Commision.

In an interview Dube admitted that the papers were incomplete but was quick to say the irregulaties would be sorted be fore MEC’s prescribed period.

“It is my fault. But I will go home and fix where they have pointed to correct the errors,” he said.

Meanwhile, the commission has received papers from People’s party president Joyce Banda and independent candidate Adil James.

Banda has picked her former vice president Khumbo Kachali as her running mate while Chilungamo has picked Mervis Mwaluwuko as his running mate.
