Former Malawi Congress Party (MCP) MP for Kasungu West, Alex Major, has confirmed that a big year-end rally at Mgona Ground, Lilongwe, is set.

He said the rally, dubbed Ali ndi May, is for the party’s unity and a clear path to 2030 elections.

In an interview with us, Major has urged followers and Malawians to ignore Facebook/WhatsApp posts claiming the rally is fake.

The rally will be on Wednesday, 31 December.

“This calls members to unite, listen, and prepare for the work ahead; we are focused. The event aims to show strength with guests from all party levels, including district chairs, regional committee, and other top figures,” he said

The rally follows party debates and arrests of some MCP officials, but Major says the party is not shaken.

“I am not a rebel. I am a pillar of this party. Loyalty to President Lazarus Chakwera endures until the next convention. My aim is to strengthen the party, not break it,” he said

The rally theme on posters reads: “Tiyeni Tonse Tikamve Mmene Tiyendele Mu 2026” (Let us hear how we will proceed in 2026), and ends with solidarity: “Musaphonye! Tikhale limodzi.” (Don’t be divided! Let us be united.)

Analysts view the rally as crucial for the MCP to mobilize grassroots, project unity, and set the tone for 2026.
