Following a string of disappointing results, Mchinji-based NBS National Division League side Mchinji Villa Football Club (FC) has suspended head coach Eliya Phiri.
The club currently sits second from the bottom of the league table, having collected just three points from three draws, with no wins in six matches played so far.
According to a letter seen by Malawi News Agency (Mana), signed by General Secretary Caroline Mbewe, Chairperson John Chirwa and Team Manager Denis Milala, the suspension is effective for four weeks starting from July 1, 2025.
“Management has decided to suspend you, due to unpalatable performance, which has resulted in no impact on the team as well as the community,” reads part of the letter.
In the meantime, Chifuniro Chimkokomo has been appointed as the club’s caretaker coach.
Meanwhile, Red Lions from Zomba continue to dominate the NBS National Division League standings with five wins from six games, amassing 15 points and suffering just one defeat.
Mitundu Baptist, Bangwe All Stars, and Baka City follow closely in second, third, and fourth places, respectively, each with 12 points.
Jenda United FC anchors the table, having failed to secure a single point and having conceded 14 goals while managing to score only twice.
