An enterprising carpenter, Mark Mwandeya who owns a shop along the Lali Lubani Road near Lilongwe CCAP Church and PMS lines said he is reaping huge rewards from his business acumen now that he is producing international-class furniture.

Mwandeya, a middle-aged Area 36 resident, has even managed to train over 25 carpenters since he opened shop about fifteen years ago.

Speaking about his exploits, Mwandeya says it does not require one to be very well educated but to have passion in whatever they do.

Mwandeya

Says Mwandeya; “I started small and some people thought that my business would flounder along the way but God has been merciful and I am living a very comfortable life. I have built four mansions and I also own four cars. To put the icing on the cake I have also been blessed with my wife with four children three of whom are in secondary school.”

Mwandeya explains that it is encouraging that many Malawians are buying local and business despite the financial hardships most Malawians are facing.

“Even Indians are buying from us some to resell and other to improve the outlook of their houses. The most encouraging thing is that Malawians who have always had a penchant for foreign manufactured goods have changed their attitudes are also supporting us in large numbers,” he adds.

President Lazarus Chakwera has been in forefront encouraging Malawians to buy local and people like Mwandeya need to be supported fully.
