Maranatha International Academy outgoing form 4 class of 2023 celebrated its graduation on Thursday during a colourful ceremony at Robins Park , where the school Managing Director, Ernest Kaonga spoiled the outstanding students prior to their Malawi School Leaving Certificate (MSCE), which commences in two weeks time.
Esther Chavula, who emerged overall after scoring 6 points during mock examinations was given K1 million.
Some students, who also performed well during mock examinations and different discplines, were also spoiled with money, ranging from K200,000 to K100,000 the lowest.
Outstanding teachers were also rewarded with money. The overall outstanding teacher, Montfort Mitungwi went home with K5 million,while the lowest got K1 million.
The Academy Managing Director, Ernest Kaonga said they decided to award the perfoming students as one of motivating them ahead of the MSCE.
“We thought it wise to motivate the out-going students for them to have the desire to achieve so much more.As Maranatha we assure them that the best is yet to come from us,” said Kaonga.
Kaonga also said at Maranatha they believe in helping the government in uplifting the educations standards and that is why they have also reward students from government schools for scoring with 6 points in the previous MSCE.
“This is a sign that we don’t only focus on our children but education as a whole in the country,” he said.
Kaonga also announced that the school will continue dangling for scholarships to outstanding students at the school.
He said they believe the move will increase competition in classes and improve performance in the MSCE examinations.
Said Kaonga, “As we proceed with our aim to produce the best results at Secondary School level, we will continue to reward outstanding students with scholarships.”
This development is coming at a time when Maranatha Academy pays school fees to one of their students, Christopher Frances who got selected to College of Medicine.
During the function,Christopher Frances was given K1 million as part of his school fees at .
Speaking on the same function was the out-going Head Prefect from boys, Foster Pemba , who advised parents to send their children to Maranatha describing the academy as the best.
The PTA Chairperson from boys school, Mizeck Chiweza, said the school set the pace for others to follow.
“We salute the school management for their tireless in as far as teaching and shaping students is concerned. We do not need to give an example because the examples are there already where each and every examinations, Maranatha produces cream beating so many schools.,” she said.
He also urged the schools authority to continue enforcing discpline to the students,saying it was one component for their outstanding perfomance
