MANEB releases PSLCE and JCE results

The Ministry of Education in conjunction with the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) has released the 2024; Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) and the Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) examination results.

MANEB Executive Director, proff, Dorophy Nampota made the announcement today during press briefing in Lilongwe.

“Out of 252,668 candidates who sat this year’s PSLCE examinations, 217,708 have passed, representing a pass rate of 86.1 percent, which is a decline to last year’s 87.77 percent”

“For the JCE, Nampota said out of 110,002 candidates who sat this year’s examinations, 154,504 have passed, representing a pass rate of percent, which is a decrease to last year’s 72 percent” she said

According to Nampota the top ten (10) performing education districts in descending order are: Zomba Urban, Phalombe, Likoma, Chitipa, Ntchisi, Zomba Rural, Mulanje, Karonga, Mzuzu City and Dedza.

The bottom ten (10) education districts, in ascending order are: Nsanje, Chikwawa, Lilongwe West, Mchinji, Neno, Lilongwe East, Dowa, Lilongwe City, Mzimba North and Nkhotakota.

The performance of Education Divisions in descending order is as follows: Shire Highlands, South East, North, Central East, South West, and Central West.

The top ten (10) schools based on proportion of As and Bs in descending order are: St Mauritius (Rumphi, 93.04%), Mtendere (Dedza, 91.15%), Ludzi Girls (Mchinji,91.00%), Lilongwe Girls (Lilongwe City, 87.78%), St Mary’s (Zomba Urban, 84.18%), Karonga St Mary’s Girls (Karonga, 83.56%), Lilongwe Islamic (Lilongwe West, 83.24%), St Kizito Seminary (Dedza,81.85%), Bakhita (Pvt) (Balaka, 81.38%) and Loyola Jesuit (Kasungu, 81.25%).

On PSLCE candidates who have been selected to Secondary Schools, Secretary for Education, MANEB announced that a total of 97,874 have been selected to start form 1 in various secondary schools. This represents a transition rate of 44.96%. this is an improvement from previous year where the rate was 40.96%.

The conference was presided by Minister of Education, Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima who expressed appreciation to relevant stakeholders for helping Maneb to successfully administer 2024 examinations describing it as “leakage free”.

However, the ministry has announced that first term of the 2024/2025 academic calendar is commencing on 16th September, 2024 while the third term will close on 25th July, 2025.
