Senior Resident Magistrate court sitting at Chikweo in Machinga district has sentenced Fedson Muloma to 16 years Imprisonment with Hard Labour (IHL) for defiling his 14-year-old step daughter.

The Court through Machinga Police State Prosecutor, Sergeant Gift Kalamula heard that between June 17 and 20, 2022, Muloma had been having sexual intercourse with his step daughter.

He said the mother to the child, caught her husband in their room and the victim confessed that her stepfather had defiled her on three occasions.

Kalamula told the court that the matter was reported to Police who arrested the suspect and the victim was referred to the hospital where results revealed that she was defiled.

During the court hearing, Muloma pleaded guilty to the charge leveled against him.

In Kalamulas submission, he asked the court for stiffer punishment to deter other step fathers having similar malpractice.

In his mitigation, Muloma pleaded with the court for leniency for he takes care of his wife, his one year old child including his stepdaughters.

Senior Resident Magistrate, Muhammad Chande concurred with state’s plea and sentenced Muloma to 16 years IHL.
Muloma hails from Nkhupera village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Nkalo in Chiradzulu district.
