Lilongwe Police recovers 25 drums of tar, suspect arrested

Police at Nathenje in Lilongwe have recovered 25 drums full of tar valued at K10 million, and five empty tanks, same suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained from road construction companies on Thursday, August 22 ,2024.

Lilongwe Police public relations officer Inspector Hastings Chigalu said they have arrested Gladson Banda, 42, of Kasiya Village, Traditional Authority Kalumbu, in Lilongwe District, for being found in possession of the items.

“Acting on a tip-off from well wishers that the suspect offloaded the said items at his house, detectives made a follow-up.

“Upon searching the house premises, law enforcers found the 25 drums full of tar, and five empty tanks which the suspect failed to explain as to where and how he got the property. Investigations are underway to establish more details on the same,” he said

Chigalu said the suspect will appear in court soon to face a case of found In possession of property suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.
