A new mosque under construction in Area 23 is going to cost former Mayor of Lilongwe City Council Richard Banda about K200 million The Atlas has learnt.

The new mosque replaces an old one which was razed down as it was in a very bad shape and need expensive rehabilitation.

Construction of the mosque which started on 23 May and expected to end on 30 September has created over 30 new employment opportunities, most of them for bricklayers and builders.

According to Dyton Ndende Director of Muhammad Building Construction, the company undertaking the project, everything is going according to plan and they have not faced any hitches.

“The mosque which we are building is 20 by 20 meters and on top of that we are also constructing toilets, a car park which is 50 by 70 metres and a place of relaxation. We want muslims in Area 23 and surrounding areas like Chiuzila,Gaga, Malichero and Namchimba to pray in a serene surrounding area,” said Ndende.

Ndende also disclosed that the company which he heads, has undertaken various building projects in Lilongwe, Salima, Nkhotakota and Machinga and due to the quality of work which they always deliver on time, the company continues to get more projects from various stakeholders.

“We are experts in almost everything that involves construction like: building, fixing ceiling boards, roofs, frame making, fixing steel made products needed in construction, changing house designs even when the owners are in the house, fixing aluminum doors and remote controlled gates.

Councilor Banda on the reasons he chose Muhammad Building Construction to undertake the project said he was impressed with their track record and he knows that they will deliver quality work.

He said of all the projects he wanted to do in Area 23 the mosque was coming first since the previous mosque was dilapidated and could have been a source of a catastrophe.

“I am a Christian but I am building a mosque because God is one. When I saw that the mosque is Area 23 was in bad shape I decided to come in to help. It is not that I have too much money but the Scriptures have always taught us to give. Those who give are always blessed more and that is what I am just doing,” said Banda who also disclosed that he is building a multi-million bridge in Chipasula.
