JTI Leaf Malawi Limited acknowledges fire incident at its warehouse

JTI has confirmed that fire has tragically destroyed its rented warehouse located at Kanengo, off the Salima road.

According to a statement signed by the company’s corporate affairs and communications director Limbani Kakhome, efforts by various emergency and security services are still underway to contain the fire.

“While this incident resulted in the complete loss of stock and inputs stored at the facility, we are relieved to report that there were no injuries or loss of human life.

“In response to this incident, we will conduct a thorough investigation, in collaboration with fire safety authorities and the owners of the property, to ascertain the cause of the fire.

“We are committed to implementing all necessary measures to prevent such occurrences in the future and we continue to ensure the utmost safety of our operations moving forward.

The affected warehouse was a remote site, separate from our main factory, and we have robust contingency plans in place designed to minimize operational disruption and recover from these losses efficiently.

“We appreciate the support from our employees, partners, and the community during this challenging time. We will keep all stakeholders updated as we learn more about the situation and the steps we are taking,” he said
