High Court Judge Ken Manda has obtained an injunction restraining human rights lawyer Alexious Kamangira restraining him from making further statements against the applicant.
“An order of interlocutory Injunction be and is hereby granted restraining the defendant from making, writing or publishing any statements about the claimant until final determination of the herein action or further order,” reads part of the injunction granted by High Court Judge Simeon Mdeza, sitting at Lilongwe
Kamangira has been accusing some members of the judiciary, Manda inclusive of corruption in the way they handle court cases. He has always accused fellow lawyer for conniving with judges to twist court judgements.
It all started when On September 13 2024, Mand issued an order to freeze approximately $2.3 million (about K5.3 billion) in SSCL’s accounts pending the resolution of a legal dispute with Mukteshwar Sugar Mills Limited.
The ruling comes amid escalating prices for sugar, particularly from Illovo Sugar, which has raised prices twice in recent months, exacerbating the struggle for low- income consumers.
Following Kamangila’s social media rants, Manda initiated a legal action against the lawyer seeking 250 million kwacha in damages.
The lawsuit filed by Gobz Attorneys also includes a request for an apology to be posted on Kamangila’s Facebook page and demanding him to refrain from making any further defamatory statements against the judge.
However, Kamangira has refused to apologize.
