The Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) has fined Glalle Enterprises for being found guilty of selling products likely to cause injury to health or physical harm to consumers, and unconscionable conduct.
According to a statement released by CFTC, on 18th October 2022, the Commission conducted an inspection at Glalle Enterprises Bar located at Area 49 in Lilongwe and found that the said bar was stocking expired products.
“Actually, the Commission noted that some of the products had expired as far back as December 2021, and yet they were still being supplied to customers.
“Although the Commission sent a Notice of Investigation to the Respondent and subsequent follow up letters and reminders, the Respondent did not cooperate,” reads part of the statement signed by CFTC Executive Director Lloyds Vincent Nkhoma
Following the discussions, according to the statement, Glalle Enterprises was found guilty on two counts namely; supplying products likely to cause injury to health or physical harm to consumers and unconscionable conduct in the trade of goods and failing to cooperate with the Commission during its investigations by failing to furnish the Commission with information when requested to do so.
The commission fined the bar K500,000.00 on each count.
