C-Quest Capital, a Non-Governmental Organization that aims at uplifting the livelihood of poor households in the country says it is deeply touched by the plight of those affected by the floods and has since made a donation of various items worth K100 million.
The donation which targets 4000 households will see victims receive K7000 cash, a 10 kilogram bag of Maize flour, 5 packets of Soya Pieces and a bucket, all per household.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony of the goods to the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA), C-Quest Capital Country Director Onexy Msachiwa said they felt duty-bound to assist those in need.
“Being a Malawian and somebody who works in the rural areas, I have seen how people are suffering on the ground after Cyclone Freddy” said Msachiwa
Msachiwa added that as a company they made the donation as part of corporate social responsibility.
He further said that they have put some monitoring mechanisms to ensure that the donations reaches to the intended targets.
“In all areas that we have targeted, we have community extension workers and field workers who are there implementing our programs so interms of monitoring we have a very good system where each and every beneficiary will actually tick what he has received and indicate their name and signature on each and every paper that will be distributed at a tier level and with the presence of our team will ensure that the people that are targeted are indeed the beneficiaries of this program”
On his part DoDMA Deputy Director for Resilience Hastings Mwanjoka commended C-Quest Capital for coming up with the donation which he believes it will help to address some challenges that exists in evacuation camps.
“This donation has come at a right time where we need such kind of items most to address some challenges in camps” said Mwanjoka
He further urged other partners to continue coming in with donations as people are still suffering in camps.
