Lilongwe City Mayor, Councilor Richard Banda said the freedom of the city march which Lilongwe City Council (LCC) has organized scheduled to take place on November 24, 2023 will help to promote peace and security in Lilongwe City.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday ahead of the freedom march, Banda said that LCC has engaged the Malawi Defense Force (MDF) to be part of the forthcoming freedom march to help in maintaining peace and security in the city.

“We are giving the chance to the military team just because in our city we are looking for security and this is the only way we can maintain sanity in our city, there are a lot of issues that are happening out there that is why we have involved the military,” Banda said.

He added that, LCC will keep on working in collaboration with MDF in restoring security in Lilongwe city so that the residents should be able to walk freely at any time and do their activities.

MDF Captain Owen Banda hailed LCC for involving MDF to support in promoting security in Lilongwe city.

“As Kamuzu Barracks we are very concerned with the issues of security that are happening in Lilongwe city.

“We believe that the good working relationship between MDF and the city council will help in sorting out some of these issues and make sure that people in the city are living peacefully,” he said.
