Former Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) members who joined the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) have faced the media for the first time to reveal their reasons for the move.
The quartet of Uladi Mussa, Mwai Innocent Kamuyambeni, Agness Marriam Chimbalanga and Zeria Khumbize Chakale teamed up with human rights activist Redson Munlo to hold a press briefing today in Lilongwe, where they discussed reasons for their decisions.
In her speech, Chakale said she decided to join MCP after being convinced that President Lazarus Chakwera is determined to develop the country.
“I discovered that Chakwera has brought tremendous change to the nation, we have witnessed so many developments happening across the country without favouritism so I decided to work with him,” said Chakale
Former DPP National Director for Women Agnes Mirriam Chimbalanga revealed that she dumped the blue side due to in-house fighting.
On his part, former DPP Vice president for the Central Region Uladi Mussa mentioned the shackles of family politics within the former ruling party as the reason for him to jump the blue ship.
However, Reverend Mwai Innocent Kamuyambeni, former MP for DPP, appealed to all Malawians to re-elect the MCP for Chakwera to continue developing the nation.
As for Munlo, he said he decided to join MCP after being impressed by President Chakwera’s leadership style, and he further announced his intention to stand as a Member of Parliament on the MCP ticket in next year’s tripartite elections.
