FAM signs MoU with football legends

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Football Legends Association (FLA).

FAM Vice President Madalitso Kuyera said they decided to engage football legends after realizing that former players are not actively involved in association protocols

Kuyera said FAM is looking to be utilizing the knowledge and expertise in the legends through the MOU, in their bid to transforming the game.

“We value the experience and the expertise that our legends have, these are the people that have played football at the highest level they know what it takes to play football, they have the experience so we want to cast net wider to reach out to them, to work with them, to collaborate with them so that we develop football”

“We know that we don’t have it all, we could be deficient in other areas but when we open the platform to everyone who is got the football knowledge to come forward and assist us, I believe that we can always get the results that we want as a nation” he said

According to Kuyera, FAM will be facilitating vocational skills training for legends as well as conducting periodical reviews and lead assessment to identify emerging issues.

However, Kuyera has admitted that there is going to be joint resource mobilization initiatives for all their plans to be successful.

“We need resources, and these two bodies will come together to find means on how they can jointly mobilize resources to ensure that those initiatives in the MoU are going to be well supported” he added.

FLA board chair Jim Kalua expressed excitement that the agreement has been signed.

Kalua further urged all legends to get registered to FLA organization to be part of the agreement.

A joint working Committee is going to be constituted by the representatives of the parties respectively and shall be established based to the agreement.

The composition of this joint committee shall be consisted of six members, thus three from each party.

In this MOU, the Football Association of Malawi will be responsible for initiating and maintaining the membership of football legends with clear definition set criteria and categorization of legends and former players.

Again they are supposed to maintain the database of legends categorized based on competence, expertise, age, location, gender.
