Football Association of Malawi has revealed plans to increase sponsorship package for FAM Districts League which is currently at K90 million.

This has been revealed by FAM President Walter Nyamilandu during the third edition launch of the competition.

Nyamilandu said he is impressed with the successes of FAM Districts League for the past three seasons hence the need to increase financial support.

“We started with two-year trial and we didn’t know that it will grow like this, it has proved to be successful, we have seen good talent and what we are saying is that this Cup must stay”

“It is our plans also to increase the sponsorship, our budget for next four years already accommodates for increase so I can assure them whether I’m alive or not this competition will see substantial increase in sponsorship” he said

Nyamilandu further further said there’s need to change the format of the competition in order to produce best District of the year.

“The format of this competition, the variety of this competition this cup must increase we want to have a district Champion whether it is Mwanza, people must know Mwanza there’s talent, whether it is Balaka or Mzimba, and will be able to map to know which District is lagging behind, which District is doing well but at this stage we don’t have our finger on the purse to say this district has more talent in goalkeepers, this District is doing very well but if we extend it to the national champion we will be able to zone in and drilling get down to know which District is doing very well”

The FAM President also said he wants to see FAM Districts League be permanent fixture in FAM’s calender.
