The main opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has expelled Kondwani Nankhumwa, Grezelder Jeffrey, Mark Botoman and Cecilia Chazama, hours after they appeared before a disciplinary committee.

According to a statement signed by the party spokesperson Shadrick Namalomba, the decision comes after careful consideration and in accordance with the recommendation of DPP president Peter Mutharika.

“Their expulsion from the party is a direct consequence of their misconduct and indiscretion, which has been deemed detrimental to the values and principles of the Democratic Progressive Party.

“The Disciplinary Committee, composed of esteemed party members, conducted a thorough investigation into the alleged misconduct of the aforementioned individuals.

“The committee’s findings revealed a clear violation of the party’s code of conduct, resulting in the unanimous decision to expel them from the DPP.

“President Peter Mutharika, after carefully reviewing the committee’s recommendation, fully supports and endorses the decision to expel these senior members.

“The President firmly believes that maintaining discipline and upholding the party’s integrity are paramount to the DPP’s success. The expulsion of these senior members serves as a strong message that the DPP will not tolerate any form of misconduct or indiscretion within its ranks. The party is confident that this decision will strengthen its resolve and ensure a more united and disciplined front,” reads part of the statement

This is the second time the party has fired the four, whose camp has been fighting against Mutharika’s leadership.
