Churches must continue to complement the government’s efforts in accelerating development of the country, President Lazarus Chakwera said in Mzuzu on Sunday.
Chakwera made the remarks when he, and First Lady Monica Chakwera, attended the Sunday service at St Andrews Church of the CCAP Livingstonia Synod in Mzuzu.
Chakwera said although the country was going through hardships, citizens need to continue to be productive.
“My prayer is that God should help all of us to be productive in all endeavours so that our common vision of achieving exclusive wealth, industrialisation is implemented through the Malawi2063,” he said.
The President added that the government would continue with programmes meant to uplift people’s social and economic standards.
In his sermon titled ‘We are born for a purpose’, Moderator of Livingstonia Synod, Rev. Reuben Msowoya, said although Malawians are facing challenges such as COVID-19, polio and cholera, the fact that they are still alive means God has a purpose for them.
“Malawi as a nation is not poor and we have resources, therefore we need to be hard working as we fight greed, dishonest accumulation of wealth, lies and drunkenness because these things hinder people from seeing the face of God because He hates unproductive lives,” he observed.
Msowoya advised Malawians to refrain from corrupt practices, saying God does not bless sinful people.
Secretary General of the synod, Rev. William Tembo, hailed Chakwera whom he described as a servant leader and that Malawi is blessed to have him.
“As members of the CCAP, whether under Livingstonia Synod or Nkhoma Synod, we would like to assure you that we will support you to attain the Malawi2063 because we are well aware that you came into office during tough times and you have only been two years in office, therefore although the times might seem dark, one day it will still shine,” he promised.
