Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LoP) George Chaponda wants the National Assembly to have access to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) servers and organize a visit to the National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA) warehouse in Kanengo, Lilongwe.
On Wednesday, opposition legislators flocked to Kanengo at the NFRA warehouse where National Registration Bureau (NRB) uses to sort national IDs claiming that it’s the hub for the ruling Malawi Congress Party’s (MCP) rigging echeme.
Chaponda, who wanted Parliament to discuss the issue, was given a 48-hour ultimatum to present evidence of rigging.
Following the ultimatum, Chaponda said his request for the MEC servers and NFRA visit is part request of evidence gathering.
He said that it is impossible to physically bring the warehouse or the servers to Parliament.
“The evidence is at NFRA warehouse and MEC servers where there are issues of double registration, and I’m asking the house that, let’s go there, because we did not physically remove the things that were circulating on the social media. We want them to go and see, it’s not the first time that these things happen, even courts go to the scene where these things are happening,” he said
