President Lazarus Chakwera has appointed Eng. Vitumbiko Mumba as new minister of labour replacing Agnes Makonda Nyalonje who reigned few days ago.

Chakwera, who announced the appointment on Wednesday during the national address, said the appointment is with immediate effect.

Nyalonje, one of the UTM members who remained in the cabinet after the party left the Tonse Alliance, resigned Saturday evening.

“I can confirm I have resigned from the Cabinet. SKC’s death changed the situation for me. I first submitted my resignation back in July but was asked to delay its enactment. His Excellency has now kindly accepted my resignation.” Nyalonje said

UTM, a key partner with the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP), left the Alliance soon after the death of its leader, Saulos Chilima.
