Youths in the country have been advised to refrain from misusing the Internet to avoid commiting cybercrimes.
Falesi Gondwe a student at Blantyre Secondary School said this today at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre during the closing ceremony of the MACRA’s Cyber Security month.
Gondwe further advised fellow youths to always respect other people’s rights on internet to avoid being trapped into legal consequences which victims of cybercrimes face.
“Our responsibility as youths is that we must take care of Internet, and we must not use it for wrong purposes. We must also respect other people rights on the internet” said Gondwe.
MACRA Board Director Stella Chuthi said MACRA in collaboration with different security agencies have done a commendable job this year to try to control the rising cases of cybercrimes through various means set by Government.
“Together with the police, Malawi Defense Force, and co-operators, we have been reporting these crimes, and therefore several people have been intercepted who have been doing these crimes and prosecuted” said Chuthi.
Since 2004, the President of the United States and Congress have declared October to be Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a time dedicated for the public and private sectors to work together to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity.
