By Peter Phiri:

Demonstrations that were scheduled to take place in Lilongwe to force President Lazarus Chakwera and his Vice Saulos Chilima to resign and call for a referendum have failed to take place.

The demonstrators under the banner Human Rights Ambassadors were had planned to start their demonstrations from Wakawaka market in Lilongwe before delivering a petition at the District Commissioner’s office.

However a visit to the demos starting point at around 11:30 AM found that even the organisers of the demos had not arrived at the venue.

In an interview Levi Luwemba, one of the organisers has confirmed to us that they have called off the demos citing unspecified security concerns.

“We have called off the demos thats all I can say for now,” said Luwemba.

Meanwhile both MDF and Police officers have since vacated the place and business is running as normal.
