One of the leading telecommunication companies in the country, Airtel Malawi has on Friday announced the second adjustments of its Data, Voice and SMS bundles effective 10 April this year.
Airtel Malawi in a statement has cited the 71% devaluation of the Kwacha since June last year, the rise in electricity tariffs and the 42.4% rise in diesel prices as some of the factors that has forced the company to restructure its prices.
This is the second time for Airtel Malawi to make adjustments to its prices following the partial adjustment of Voice and Data prices on 5th December 2023.
“We wish to notify our valued customers of the second restructuring of our Voice, Data bundle, and SMS portfolios, effective 10th April, 2024. The benefits in bundles will be reduced; effectively increasing the average price for Voice bundles by 15%, Data bundles by 23%, and SMS by 20%. Additionally, some bundles will be discontinued. The rise in both local and dollar-based expenses as a consequence of the above major changes in the economy have significantly impacted our overall operational costs. It is imperative that we adjust our prices to remain sustainable, continue investing and assure continued quality service delivery to our valued customers”, reads part of the statement from the telecommunications service provider.
The statements further states that these adjustments have been approved by the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA).
Among others, some of the bundles that have been adjusted are the MoFaya bundles which for example a 10GB Bundle costing K4000 will now give customers 8GB worth of Data while a Chezani Weekly 1000 that previously provided 100 minutes of talk time will now give 90 minutes.
