As one way of recognising the crucial role engineers play in the development of the country through the advancement of technology, Airtel Malawi has handed over MK5 million to the Malawi Engineering Institution’s conference scheduled for next weekend in Salima.
The conference is focusing on the deployment of engineering solutions that will withstand the effects of climate change and it is being held under the theme ’Building Back, better’.
Airtel Malawi’s Head of Brand Communication, Corporate Social Responsibility and Public Relations Norah Chavula Chirwa said the main discussion at the conference is focusing on an element that also impacted Airtel Malawi’s infrastructure in the previous disaster (Cyclone Freddy).
“Airtel Malawi Plc recognizes Engineers as crucial drivers behind the development of the country through advanced technology, innovations and solutions hence our support towards the conference this year. We consider Malawi Engineering Institution as a critical partner as our engineers are already members of the institution which regulates the discipline of engineering in Malawi”, said Chavula Chirwa.
On the receiving end, Malawi Engineering Institution’s Conference Vice Chairperson Engineer James Makwakwa thanked Airtel Malawi saying the sponsorship shows how true the telecommunications company is in its partnership with the Engineer’s institution.
“We are deeply grateful for the sponsorship towards the Malawi Engineering Institution Engineering Conference that we have received from Airtel Malawi. We believe that Airtel Malawi PLC has embraced our conference theme hence this sponsorship will ultimately enable the dissemination of information about building resilience in our approaches to combating climate change effects”, he said.
The conference will among other things focus on four sub-themes namely: Engineering disaster preparedness, climate change and mitigation, sustainability through engineering, and guidelines and standards for climate resilient infrastructure.
