The Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) has refuted claims that it is entering into an electoral alliance with the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) at a K5 billion kwacha price.
Describing them as baseless and malicious, the party has demanded for an immideate apology from legislator Kamlepo Kalua, who first made the claims.
“We are writing to express our utmost shock and disappointment at your recent allegations that the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) is entering into an electoral alliance with Malawi Congress Party (MCP), and that AFORD has received MK5billion from the ruling party.
“These baseless and malicious claims are not only unfounded but also derogatory in nature, and damaging to the integrity of AFORD’s leadership and the entire party.
“Your utterances are a clear attempt to undermine the credibility and trust that our party has built over the years. We take great exception to these allegations and demand that you take immediate action to rectify the situation,” reads part of the a letter to Kalua signed by AFORD national publicity secretary Annie Amatullah Maluwa.
The party has demanded that Kalua should apologize within seven days and provide concrete evidence on the claims.
“The apology should be made publicly through the same platforms and media outlets where you made such allegations. You should provide concrete evidence of the alleged MK5billion transaction, including but not limited to documents showing the source, recipient, and any agreements or signatures related to the transaction.
“Failure to comply with this demand within the specified timeframe, will lead us to take further action by seeking legal redress for defamation and damage to our party’s reputation,” reads part of the letter
