The Ministry of Lands has announced that at least 4,000 security houses have taken shape in the third phase of security housing program, that has an overall target of 10,000 houses.
Minister of Lands, Deus Gumba said the work is at different stages as in some site’s contractors are on the ground, while others will resume work after getting payments from treasury.
Gumba is optimistic that government will deliver in the project, by meeting the 10,000 houses benchmark.
“Let me say that the Chakwera administration is steadfast in terms of doing implementing of the construction of 10,000 houses for security agencies”
“The work is in progress at different stages, but also different phases. We are in phase three this time around where 4,000 house have already taken shape in terms of programming stages and also construction stages”
“As I am speaking, most of contractors are on the ground and others once they get advance payment they will be on the ground” said Gumba.
Out of the 10,000 houses, the Malawi Defence Force and the Malawi Police Service are getting a lion share of 4,000 each, while the Malawi Prison Services and the Immigration Department, evenly share the reminder.
