The government has announced the commencement of a digitalization project for 23,000 human resource personnel records, starting with employees in the Ministry of Health.
This initiative aims to modernize record management and enhance efficiency in decision-making processes.
The Department of Human Resource Management and Development (DHRMD) officially launched the project on Thursday in Salima, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Department of the Accountant General (AGD).
Speaking at the launch, Secretary for Human Resource Management and Development, Blessings Chilabade, underscored the importance of transitioning from manual record-keeping to digital platforms.
“The World Bank-funded program has come at a time when Malawi has been struggling with manual computation of human resource information. This is a step in the right direction toward revolutionizing the human resource department,” he said.
He further emphasized the significance of digitalization in streamlining record management.
“We seek to modernize and streamline record management systems to fully utilize digital platforms, and this is the way forward,” Chilabade added.
He also expressed the government’s appreciation for the World Bank’s support, noting that the new system will enhance e-government operations and improve efficiency in accessing personnel data.
With the Ministry of Health employees being the first to have their records digitized, Duff Msukwa, Director of Human Resource Management at the Ministry of Health, described the development as a crucial step forward.
“We are living in a digital world, and we need to move with time. This is a critical period during which we are launching a system that will serve as the foundation for efficient data management at the ministry and across all government MDAs. We are happy with this development,” said Msukwa.
The project, funded by the World Bank, is expected to digitally upload data for at least 263,000 government employees across the country over time.
