Chakwera said this Sunday in Shenzen City, China during a media briefing before his departure to Malawi.
President Lazarus Chakwera has said what Malawi dreams for is possible with commitment, resilience and hard work.
President Chakwera said Malawi can change the status of its people, if the people themselves are creative and find means of sourcing funds to develop their nation.
“To be able to produce more for commercialisation and industrialisation, we need investment, and we have to think outside the box to get means of resource mobilisation for our own projects,” said Chakwera.
The President described his invitation to the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) as the Guest of Honour as an honour, and was marvelled at the opportunity that the trip accorded him by visiting three cities, including Shenzhen.
The Malawi leader noted that Shenzen is a city that was deliberately created for people with an aim of giving them a good life, adding that the realisation has assured him that Malawi can also develop with hard work just like China and its people are doing.
“China has invited Malawi to bring many tones of tobacco and this portrays a chance that Malawi can grab and export tobacco and get forex,” said Chakwera.
He added: “What China needs is a quick response to what they are looking for; if they want tobacco then let Malawians work hard, stop the laissez faire way of doing things and lets all work hard as a team to prosper Malawi.”
The President also witnessed the signing of two different Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) between Malawi and the Chinese companies who are engaged to build the Marka-Bangula railway corridor as well as constructing Mangochi International Airport.
Besides officiating CAETE, Chakwera also opened a consulate general in Changsha, Hunan Province, an agricultural based economy province with an aim that Malawi should be in bilateral relations with the people of Hunan.
Before his departure for Malawi, he met the mayor of Shenzhen province, where they held two had bilateral talks aimed at working together for the good of the two peoples.
