UTM youth director for the Central Region , Luke Mkandawire has resigned from both his position and the party.

According to a resignation letter dated July 26 2024 and addressed to party General Secretary Patricia Kaliati, Mkandawire said his resignation is with immediate effect.

“This decision was not made casually. After careful deliberation, I have concluded that resigning and prioritizing my personal and professional development is advantageous.

“Being the Youth Director has been a significant privilege, and I am immensely thankful for the opportunities and experiences accompanying this position.

“Throughout this position, I have acquired valuable knowledge and expertise to apply to my future pursuits.I express my gratitude for the support, confidence, and camaraderie I have been given throughout my term,” reads part of the letter

In an interview with The Atlas Malawi, Mkandawire downplayed reports suggesting that his decision was due to the party’s departure from the Tonse Alliance.

“Am currently pursuing my studies as a Quantity surveyor hence the decision to focus on education,” he said.

In a related development, the party’s Kasungu Bua district governor Tafela Jowasi has also resigned.

“After much reflection and consideration, I have decided to resign as a district governor and member of UTM effective 25th July, 2024.
