Police in Mponela, Dowa District, have arrested two men suspected to have murdered a nine (9)-year-old girl, Edda Katengedza, on October 13, 2023.

Public Relations Officer for Mponela Police, Sergeant Macpatson Msadala has identified Hollace Fred Machungula aged 27 and Albert Banda aged 29 as the prime suspects in the murder of Katengedza that occurred at Chizoloondo Trading Centre in the district.

“Around 7:00 pm on the day, the girl in the company of her younger brother, went to the market to visit her father who was selling cassava there. The father then sent her to deliver some cassava to their uncle who also sells some products within the market.

“Moments later, the children left for home but when their father later got home in the evening, he did not find his daughter.

“He then organised a search which yielded nothing until the following day when the naked lifeless body of Katengedza was discovered in a garden about one kilometre from the trading centre,” said Msadala.

He said postmortem conducted at Chizoloondo Health Centre had revealed that death was due to excessive loss of blood secondary to multiple stab wounds.
