The fall of London Bridge: Malawi cherishes Queen Elizabeth II visit

President Lazarus Chakwera has described the late Queen Elizabeth II a generous human being who dedicated her entire lifetime to serving mankind.

Queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday afternoon at the age of 96 according to a statement from the Buckingham Palace her official residence.

In a statement released on Thursday evening, President Chakwera has led Malawians in paying tribute to the UK’s longest serving monarch.

‘On behalf of the people and government of Malawi, the First Lady and I express our deepest condolences to the British Royal family and the people and Government of Great Britain on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth who was also Queen of Malawi between 1964 and 1966 when Malawi was transitioning into a republic.

The statement further states that the Queen’s inimitable legacy as a friend of Malawi will forever be etched on the hearts of Malawians and indelibly marked on the pages of Malawi’s history.

“We join the world in mourning her passing and appreciating the life of generosity to mankind, devotion to duty, service to country, dedication to family, and faith in God that she so humbly and ably embodied,” reads the statement.

During her reign Queen Elizabeth II visited Malawi in 1979.

Throughout the time she has been Queen of the UK, Malawi and the United have continued to strengthen their bilateral ties in several areas of development like Education, Agriculture, Energy as well direct budgetary support.
Details of her funeral arrangements are not yet released.
