Standard Bank on Friday contributed U$10,000 (over MWK17.2 Million) to the Ministry of Trade to facilitate the country’s participation at next month’s Malawi Investment Forum in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Speaking in Lilongwe during the presentation ceremony, Standard Bank head of business and commercial banking Graham Chipnde said the gesture underscores their commitment to be counted as the long-term partner for growth within Africa, as we continue to catalyse trade.
“In particular, the bank notes that the Ministry of Trade has been a focal coordination point of various deliberations designed to improve Malawi’s capacity and participation in the export markets, and on efforts to attract Foreign Direct Investment.
“The bank is particularly grateful to the Minister of Trade and Industry Honourable Sosten Gwengwe for always availing himself and sparing time to sit with us around the table to discuss matters of national economic interest,” he said
The contribution was done jointly between Standard Bank Malawi (US$5,000) and Stanbic Bank Tanzania (US$5,000)
Last year in Johannesburg, South Africa, Standard Bank also partnered in the Malawi Investment Forum and made a similar financial contribution.
“As Standard Bank, we feel greatly honoured to be recognized as a partner in collective efforts to elevate the Malawi’s and our neighbour’s trade profile.
“As a bank, we consider ourselves as an important part of the national dialogue on trade and economic development initiatives, and this fits very well with our purpose; “Malawi is Our Home; We Drive Her Growth.”
“We believe that the forum will open a new frontier of opportunity for Malawian traders and businesses seeking linkages with Tanzanian partners.,” he said
Minister of Trade and Industry, Sosten Gwengwe said the contribution demonstrates the bank’s commitment to enhancing regional integration and unlocking Malawi’s investment potential for future prosperity.
“Standard Bank’s sponsorship will play a vital role in facilitating meaningful discussions, networking opportunities, and the exchange of innovative ideas among stakeholders.
“The contribution will help bring together experts, policymakers, and business leaders to explore opportunities and address challenges in regional trade and investment.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Standard Bank for their trust and support in this initiative. Your contribution of US$10,000 will undoubtedly enhance the forum’s impact and success.
“Together, let us work towards strengthening trade and economic ties between Malawi and Tanzania, through unlocking our nations’ full potential, and by creating a brighter future for our citizens,” he said
