Some sports analysts have backed Nyasa Big Bullets vice-president Fleetwood Haiya’s candidacy for Super League of Malawi (Sulom) presidency

The top football league governing body will go to the polls next month in Mangochi.

Analysts Kim Kamau and Higgar Mkandawire have both described the current leadership as ‘failure’ which needs to be replaced with the right candidates.

Kamau said Tiya Somba Banda has failed to fulfill his promises made when he got into power in 2019 and wondered how he will bring change if re-elected.

“Looking at the manifesto of Tiya Somba Banda you could see that the points are the same he used in 2019 which he has failed to implement, teams have been run by themselves”

“Under his leadership maximizing of football revenues has failed and again inspiring for CAF participation has also failed, you talk of optimising accountability and governance as well as stakeholders engagements have been a challenge to them. He promised issues of leveling technology which has failed due to the lack of IT team and the issue of humanizing players is also a challenge so for me these guys have failed to implement what they promised in 2019” said Kamau

Higgar Mkandawire concurred with Kamau saying Somba Banda has no big achievements during his reign.

“If you look at what Tiya Somba Banda is claiming to be his achievements they are coming from Football Association of Malawi (FAM). If you talk of TV broadcasting rights it’s controlled by FAM, the main reason for his failure it’s because they don’t have secretariat, they don’t have on the ground to implement what president has said so that has been challenge” he said

Mkandawire further explained how Fleetwood Haiya could change the complexion of Malawi’s football based on his achievements at Nyasa Big Bullets where he is the Vice president.

“Based on the comparison of the two Haiya has delivered at Nyasa Big Bullets who are currently more organized than Super League of Malawi and I think he is the right person on that seat”

“As the Vice president of Nyasa Big Bullets he is part of the board and he has helped Bullet’s transformation alot. They have a sound sponsorship and they also participate in CAF Champions League every year. Remember Bullets have got secretariat, they have CEO these are just affiliate under the board.

“Nyasa Big Bullets have also attracted companies and partnered with them, we are able to see teams visibility not only on the ground but also off the pitch due to their capabilities to sell replica jerseys and they also collect high revenues which Tiya Somba Banda also promised about maximizing revenue so we can see Haiya is already capable of that and whatever Tiya is promising, Bullets has already achieved under Haiya”

The two have already introduced their manifesto’s ahead of Mangochi Showdown.

Fleetwood Haiya’s manifesto falls under five pillars which are Taking Back SULOM to the Clubs, Restructuring SULOM secretariat, Pursuing a growth roadmap, commercialization Now and for commercially viable clubs.

Which Somba Banda’s manifesto has six points as he wish to maximizing club football revenue, inspiring for CAF participation, optimizing accountability and governance, strengthening stakeholders engagements, leveling technology and Humanizing the players.
