Soya farmers in the country said the Mzimba South Member of Parliament (MP), Emmanuel Chambulanyina Jere’s soya beans proposed price will let help them to be well equipped for the next rain season.

In Parliament, the Mzimba South lawmaker proposed that this year government should buy a 50kg bag of soya beans at K75, 000.

Jere told the August House last Friday that doing that it will empower farmers to generate enough cash and managed to buy bag of fertilizer on their own.

He said this will be the only solution of substituting Affordable Input Programs (AIP) and have food security in the country.

“Madam Speaker, while thanking the Chakwera’s administration for the AIP support they have done in my constituency despite some challenges, I want to ask government to reform this year AIP. Madam Speaker, I also ask government to allocate special fund to buy soya beans at K1500 per Kg. This mean that with a bag of soya beans farmers will be able to buy a bag of fertilizer,” he said.

He further commended President Chakwera’s government for construction of modern houses for Police Officers at Jenda, saying the project has changed the face of the Trading Center, asking government to consider constructing similar houses at Embangweni Police Unit.

Jere however asked Ministry of Health to upgrade laboratory and surgery wards at Jenda Health Center saying the facility is used by many constituency including Kasungu north.

In the remarks, soya farmers who talked with this publication in a random interview described Jere’s proposal as brilliant.

They said this will make them to have enough money and expand their farming activities.
