Sand Music Festival 2024 cancelled

Impakt Events, organizers of Sand Music Festival have announced the cancellation of the 2024 edition, scheduled for September 27th to 29th at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi.

According to a statement released on Tuesday, the decision was made to honor late celebrated musician Sir Lucius Banda, who is also the founder of Impakt Events.

“This decision was among the most difficult we have ever had to make, coming in the wake of the untimely and tragic passing of our revered CEO of Impakt Events and the visionary Chairman of both the Sand Music Festival and Sand Arts Festival, Sir Lucius Banda.

“His loss has left an unfillable void in our hearts and in the very soul of our organization. May his soul find eternal peace.

“Lucius Banda was not just a leader; he was the beating heart of the Sand Music Festival. His passion, dedication, and relentless pursuit of excellence have shaped this festival into what it is today—a vibrant celebration of music, culture, and togetherness.

“To continue with the festival so soon after his passing would not only be impossible but would also feel like a disservice to the man who gave so much of himself to this cause.

“We are acutely aware of the disappointment this news will bring to the thousands of fans who were eagerly anticipating this year’s event. Your excitement, your loyalty, and your unwavering support have always been the lifeblood of this festival.

“It is because of you that the Sand Music Festival has grown into a cherished annual tradition, and it is because of you that we will rise again.

“Your encouragement through the years has meant more to us than we could ever express, and we want you to know that we do not take it for granted. We are deeply, deeply grateful,” reads part of the statement

The statement further said the event will return next year “stronger and more inspired, to honour the legacy of Sir Lucius Banda in the way he would have wanted”.

“We are pleased to announce that the Sand Music Festival 2025 will be held on the weekend of September 26th to 28th. We will announce the venue in due course.

“This will be our most heartfelt tribute to him, and we are committed to making it an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

“Details of the venue and the lineup will be shared as soon as they are confirmed. In the meantime, we humbly ask for your understanding during this difficult time, and we sincerely thank you for standing with us, now and always.

“Your continued support means the world to us, and it is what will drive us forward as we prepare to return with renewed energy and spirit,” reads the statement in part
