A nurse at Mwenilondo Health Centre in Karonga district has been arrested for allegedly selling a fridge meant for the storage of drugs and medical supplies.
Karonga Police Station spokesperson Margaret Msiska told the Nation Online that the nurse, Nathaniel Msachi, is in their custody.
She said on December 30 2025 a clinician Eunice Mwaungulu lodged a complaint that assailants broke into her office and stole a 300 litres deep freezer valued at K1.2 million.
She said: “After investigations, police detectives on Monday this week apprehended Msachi who after questioning admitted to have taken the freezer on December 29 2025.
“The suspect opened the door using the keys under his custody and later on tampered with the rim-lock to make it look like a break-in.”
Msiska said the suspect will appear in court to answer a charge of theft by public servant.
