In a scathing attack, former President Peter Mutharika has labelled the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) government led by Lazarus Chakwera as clueless, citing its failure to manage the country’s welfare, healthcare, and economy.
Mutharika, who was addressing the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) national elective conference at the COMESA Hall in Blantyre, painted a bleak picture of Malawi’s current state under Chakwera’s leadership.
“We have a President, but we have no leader in Malawi; that’s precisely our problem,” Mutharika said, his words met with fervent applause from the DPP delegates. “We’ve been taken from a Canaan and delivered into hopelessness and despair – Bagamoyo.”
Mutharika’s remarks are a clear indictment of the MCP government’s performance since taking office. The country is grappling with high inflation, a struggling economy, and a healthcare system on the brink of collapse.
The former president’s criticism is likely to resonate with many Malawians who are frustrated with the government’s handling of key sectors. The MCP government has faced mounting pressure to address the country’s challenges, but progress has been slow.
Mutharika’s comments also underscore the DPP’s campaign message, which emphasizes the need for competent leadership to steer Malawi out of its current woes. As the party’s endorsed candidate for the 2025 elections, Mutharika is positioning himself as a strong alternative to Chakwera.
The MCP government has yet to respond to Mutharika’s allegations, but the stage is set for a heated debate on the country’s future. With the 2025 elections on the horizon, Malawians are eager to hear from their leaders on how they plan to address the nation’s pressing issues.
The battle for Malawi’s future has begun, and the people are watching!
