Dr Triephornia Thomson Mpinganjira a well-known Malawian philanthropist has awarded the first K1 million winner of ‘kuthandiza omwe alibe kuthekela kupita patsogolo’ after presenting a convincing business idea.
Chikondi Kamwendo from Nsanje Bangula emerged as the winner this afternoon after she impressed the philanthropist with an amazing business idea of selling farm produce which she calculated would bring more profits.
She was awarded the prize money in Lilongwe on Tuesday.
“With this money, I plan to buy maize, beans, and millet which I will sell in my district and be able to earn a profit of 2 million per year,” Kamwendo explains.
Mpinganjira who released this project on her Facebook page said the offer invited over 43 thousand applications from different youths who all tried their luck to attain the K1 million.
“We received many business proposals and each one was closely looked into by my team, and out of the many proposals we received we found out that many had similar ideas and some were not well structured, which showed lack of seriousness in most youth,” Mpinganjira noted.
“Kuthandiza omwe alibe Kuthekela kupita patsogolo” is an K18 million project that was introduced in April to offer financial help of 1 million to individuals with outstanding business ideas.
“My team will open up another link that will allow another group of interested participants to send their proposals until we reach our goal, we are also going to offer financial assistants to individuals that have similar business ideas to make sure no one is left behind”, Mpinganjira made these remarks on the ceremony of awarding Kamwendo with a cheque of K1 million.
According to Mpinganjira, the project received over 38 000 applications and her team went through all the applications including making physical visits to potential winners.
