As the 2025 Primary School Leaving Certificate Examination (PSLCE) kicks off this Wednesday, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) aspirant for Zomba City South constituency, Dr. James Mpunga, has stepped in to motivate Standard 8 students with a generous donation of writing materials.

A total of 1,300 students from 11 primary schools in Zomba district, including Sacred Heart Boys, Chikowi, and Chipironi, will benefit from the donation.

Mpunga’s initiative aims to bridge the gap for students who may not have access to necessary learning materials due to financial constraints.

“I know some parents cannot afford these materials, and I want to encourage Standard 8 students to work hard and pass with good grades,” he said.

In addition to the writing materials, Dr. Mpunga has also repaired 125 broken desks in various schools, ensuring students have a conducive environment to sit for their exams.

He has further promised to provide school bags and other necessary learning materials to students who will be selected to secondary schools.

The students and teachers have expressed gratitude for Dr. Mpunga’s gesture, saying it will boost their morale and motivation during the exams.

“This has encouraged us to study even harder so we can pass and be selected to secondary school,” said Miguel Kum’bweza, a Standard 8 student at Chipironi Primary School.

The 2025 PSLCE exams are set to begin this Wednesday.
