The Malawi Defence Force (MDF) on Thursday invaded Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Dowa where 220 illegal immigrants were arrested.
Those arrested are from Burundi, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ethiopia and found themselves at the camp through illegal means.
MDF Commander General Paul Valentino Phiri said they decided to conduct the exercise following the insecurity concerns in Cabo Delgado province in northern Mozambique.
He said there are fears that some of them could be in transit to the province to be recruited.
Further, he said the influx of illegal immigrants is not only a security concern to the neighboring Mozambique but also with the country.
