Members of Parliament for Malawi Congress Party (MCP) have cancelled the press conference aimed at addressing their grievances on the party convention which is scheduled to start tomorrow.
76 legislators gathered at Golden Peacock hotel in Lilongwe where, according to reports, they wanted speak on issues surrounding vetting of nominations.
The MP’s representative, Ulemu Chilapondwa said they decided to cancel the presser to avoid a contradiction with what is going to be announced by the MCP leadership during the briefing later today.
“We belong to a political party which has got leadership and leadership has entrusted all the duties in the hands of the organizing committee of the convention which is about to hold a press conference later today”
“So we said if we belong to the party, we have got leadership, why don’t we leave everything to the leadership so that during that press conference they will clarify all the issues because our observation is that the organizing committee is doing very well and we are satisfied, so this is why the presser is not there” he said
In addition, Chilapondwa said another agenda for the presser was to quash social media rumours of loose security to the delegates.
