The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has challenged former National Publicity Secretary Maurice Munthali to report to relevant authorities his corruption claims.
Munthali resigned on Wednesday citing deep reflections on the turn of events since he assumed office of the Publicity Secretary 58 months ago, during which period they got elected into government.
He also resigned as President Lazarus Chakwera’s Advisor on Peace, Reconciliation and National Unity because of massive corruption that has marred his leadership.
However, Acting National Publicity Secretary, Ezekiel Peter Ching’oma who said the party learnt of the resignation through the social media urge Munthali to bring forward any evidence of alleged corruption to relevant institutions to help fight the vice.
Munthali said; “I am acutely troubled in my conscience in light of the lofty promises we made to the people of Malawi including the hopes we entrenched in our own members, as weighed against the myriad of government issues.
“As a lead governing party in the Tonse Alliance Government, we have not hitherto provided the type of the leadership and direction that would meet the hopes of all Malawians for a better life.
“Yet I am supposed to safeguard the image and reputation of the Party and the President. I have resolved at a personal level that the prevailing circumstances do not sit well with my divine calling as a man of faith and the gentle intentions I shared with the people of Malawi in general and MCP members in particular, in accepting to take up this noble role”.
He however indicated that he remains an MCP member.
