The Goshen City Trust is expected to make new financial commitments to women’s football in the country, after unveiling a K21 million sponsorship for the Goshen City Women’s Championship, on Friday in Lilongwe.

In October 2023, the Goshen City Trust signed an agreement with Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to become first ever sponsors of National Women’s Championship to a tune of K21 million.

The Goshen City Trust also supported the Malawi Women’s National Team – The Scorchers with K29 million meant for expenses during 2023 COSAFA Women’s, and K10 million as a token of appreciation for winning it.

But speaking after the unveiling ceremony, the Goshen’s Visionaire Prophet Shepherd Bushiri expressed his happiness that the agreement they made with FAM last year has finally been fulfilled after a long time of waiting.

He said “So today, we have this meeting for the first time after a long time since they won the trophy. The main issue is that we made commitments in the past and today is just our fulfilment to those commitments”.

furthermore, Bushiri revealed Goshen City Trust’s intent to announce new commitments to Malawi’s Women’s Football.

“I do believe that the new season is also starting and looking at the devaluation and other factors, it is very important that we meet from the business perspective, and see how much we will be able to inject in and that will also be announced in the near future maybe in a week or so…” added Bushiri

To his part FAM President Fleetwood Haiya thanked Goshen City Trust for fulfilling its promises and for accepting his request of allowing more partners into the game.

He further promised to make the partnership with Goshen City Trust a win – win situation.

In her remarks, Malawi Women’s Football President Adelaide Migogo said this year’s Championship is set to kickstart following the money they have received.

“They have given us the money and soon we will start, we are just waiting for our competitions department to lead us”.

Weeks ago, FAM released fixtures for Goshen National Tournament which was expected to take place from 22-28 April 2024, but it was letter postponed to early May.
