A dramatic complaint has been lodged by the Chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Steven Baba Malondera Kamsiyamo, accusing the Acting Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Gabriel Chembezi, of persistent attempts to unduly influence the ongoing Inquiry into the controversial Amaryllis transaction.
In a letter dated 22 April 2026, Kamsiyamo details a series of encounters with Chembezi, alleging threats, inducements, and misuse of confidential dockets to pressure him into “clearing” the ACB chief for permanent appointment.
Among other things, the PAC chairperson detailed that from March 10 to12, Chembezi initiated contact via WhatsApp and phone calls, requesting assurances of protection during his Inquiry appearance.
Further, on March 14, Chembezi reportedly visited Kamsiyamo’s home and later confronted him at a barber shop, insisting on protection and offering inducements.
The PAC Chair subsequently reported the matter to Inspector General of Police Richard Luhanga.
On, March 30, Chembezi allegedly arrived in an unregistered Mercedes Benz, claimed to have briefed President Peter Mutharika, and presented dockets implicating MPs and political figures as leverage.
He is said to have offered favors, to Malondera including fuel support, which were declined.
On April 3, lawyer Alexious Kamangila allegedly called Kamsiyamo, urging clearance of Chembezi, and threatened to delegitimise PAC’s work if refused.
