President Lazarus Chakwera and his Vice, Michael Bizwick Usi have joined Malawians in mourning Musician-cum-politician Lucius Banda.
The veteran musician, Lucius Banda popularly known as ‘Soldier’ died on Sunday in South Africa at the age of 53 after battling with kidney problems.
In a brief Statement, Chakwera and First Lady Monica Chakwera said Banda who before his demise served as the Presidential Advisor on Youth and Arts will be remembered for giving a voice to the voiceless and enriching Malawi’s culture.
Apart from the first couple, tributes are continuing pouring in, as the State Vice President, also UTM leader Michael Usi has also released a farewell statement to the departed soul of Lucius Banda.
“UTM family has lost a staunch member” reads part of the statement.
Lucius Banda’s music career began in 1983 when he was just 13 years old, singing alongside his brother Paul Banda and as a member of the Alleluya Band.
Over the decades, he became an iconic figure who not only put Malawian music on the global map but also dedicated his life to nurturing and promoting local talent.
