Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) President Peter Mutharika has said that Malawians have now seen the face of real evil in this country, a direct reference to President Lazarus Chakwera’s leadership.
Speaking at his Page House in Mangochi on Friday, Mutharika, who is also former Malawi President said the country has been taken hostage by its government.
“In August 2018 in my graduation address at the University of Livingstonia; I told the nation “If we are not careful evil will one day rule this country and Malawi will be held hostage.”
“Well, you have now seen the face of real evil in this country. We have been taken hostage by our government. Malawi is now a failed state. We can’t feed our people. We can’t print our passports. We can’t print a driver’s license. We can’t build a road.
“We can’t see where we are going. We have become slaves oppressed in our own country. Either we unite to save our country, or we are all doomed forever,” said Mutharika
Further, he said Malawi has a State President but Malawi has no leader.
“And a leader is what we want. President Lazarus Chakwera promised to take Malawi to the promised land of Canaan. But he has taken us to Bagamoyo, and Bagamoyo it is! He has taken us to slavery worse than colonialism.
“Since 1964, the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has been a Party of death and darkness. MCP is a party that has never known democracy. They don’t know how to develop this country.
“They know is to destroy this country. All they know is violence, killing, and stealing. All they know is creating suffering, creating hunger and torturing Malawians.
“We are a nation plunged into the depth of darkness. We are a nation in sorrow. We are in pain. Either we unite and end this oppression, or we all perish in this oppression,” he said
